You can shed tears that he is gone

Or you can smile because he has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back

Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him

Or you can be full of the love that you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday

Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday

You can remember him and only that he is gone

Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind

Be empty and turn your back

Or you can do what he would want:

Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

First Reading

Caroline Fernandes

A reading from the prophet of Isaiah, 25:6-9

On this mountain, the Lord of hosts will prepare for all peoples a banquet of rich food.  On this mountain he will remove the mourning veil covering all peoples, and the shroud enwrapping all nations, he will destroy death for ever.

The Lord will wipe away the tears from every cheek; he will take away his people’s shame everywhere on earth, for the Lord has said so.  That day, it will be said: See, this is our God in whom we hoped for salvation; the Lord is the one in whom we hoped.  We exult and we rejoice that he has saved us.

The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm

Christopher Fernandes

Psalm 23

The Lord’s My Shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

The Lord is my shepherd;

there is nothing I shall want.

Fresh and green are the pastures

where he gives me repose.

Near restful waters he leads me,

to revive my drooping spirit.

He guides me along the right path;

he is true to his name.

If I should walk in the valley of darkness

no evil would I fear.

You are there with your crook and your staff;

with these you give me comfort.

You have prepared a banquet for me

in the sight of my foes.

My head you have anointed with oil;

my cup is overflowing.

Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me

all the days of my life.

In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell

for ever and ever.

Gospel Acclamation

Alleluia, alleluia

Blessed are you, Father,

Lord of heaven and earth;

For revealing the mysteries of the kingdom

To mere children.

Alleluia

The Lord be with you

R/ And with your spirit

Gospel

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

John 14: 1-6

Jesus said to His disciples:  ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God still, and trust in me.  There are many rooms in my Father’s house; if there were not, I should have told you.  I am going now to prepare a place for you, and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you with me; so that where I am you may be too.  You know the way to the place where I am going’.  Thomas said ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’  Jesus said:  ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.  No one can come to the Father except through me.’

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ
