Kenyan Athletics world records


My favourite: Faith Kypyegon and Peris Chipchirchir

In the 2024-2025 athletic season, Kenyan athletes achieved several world records. Notably, Beatrice Chebet broke the women's 10,000m world record in May 2024. Ruth Chepngetich set a new world record in the women's marathon, finishing the Chicago Marathon in 2:09:56. Faith Kipyegon also made headlines, breaking the 1500m world record on July 2024.
The official world records in the 10,000 metres are held by Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei with 26:11 minutes for men and Kenyan Beatrice Chebet with 28:54.14 for women.

    • Set a new world record in the women's 10,000m with a time of 28:54.14 in Eugene, Oregon on May 25, 2024. 
    • Also established a new world record in the women's 5,000m road race, clocking 13:54, at the Cursa dels Nassos in Barcelona in December 2024. 
  • Ruth Chepngetich:
    • Set a new world record in the women's marathon at the Chicago Marathon in October 2024, finishing in 2:09:56. 
  • Faith Kipyegon:
    • Broke the 1500m world record at the Paris Diamond League in July 2024, achieving a time of 3:49.04. 
  • Other Notable Achievements:
    • Kelvin Kiptum tragically died in a car accident in February 2024, but his achievements included setting a men's marathon world record of 2:00:35 in Chicago in October 2023, according to Olympics.com. 
    • Peris Chepchirchir also set a women-only marathon world record in April 2024, reported by Kenyans.co.ke. 
    Uganda's current top athletes in track and field include Joshua Cheptegei and Peruth ChemutaiCheptegei won gold in the men's 10,000m at the Paris 2024 Olympics with an Olympic record, while Chemutai secured silver in the women's 3000m steeplechase, setting a new national record. The Uganda Rugby men's team and the Uganda netball women's team were also recognized as the best teams of the year.
